Simple tests involve measuring the weight and volume of the bar and calculating the density. Gold has a very well defined density (19.32g/mL) if the density of the bar is different, then it’s not pure gold.
Another method involves weighing the bar in air and again under water. It’s based on water displacement and again gives you a density.
If the density is not right, you can make some guesses about how much gold is in the bar, but you are better off sticking with 24K if you can get it.
